Toronto runners worry about rain ahead of marathon, with some hiring witches to magically change the weather | CBC News
"Content creator Sarah Jenkins says she's never been the type to check the weather in her day to day life, but lately she's been checking Sunday's conditions religiously ahead of her first marathon. I spiraled because like I've done everything in my power to control what I can in this race. But the one thing I didn't really think about was weather,"
"Purchasing spells from an alleged witch on Etsy has become a trend in recent months, said Jenkins, who notes she's not a woo woo person, who believes in magic or astrology. A girl I know had gone to a wedding and they had used an Etsy spell to make the weather better So I thought [purchasing a spell] would be a funny TikTok because I vlog my life anyways, said Jenkins."
Toronto runners are anxious about rain for the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon and have reacted on social media. Some purchased weather spells from Etsy witches to try to influence Sunday conditions. Content creator Sarah Jenkins checked forecasts closely before her first marathon after a previous rainy race caused blisters and soaked feet. Jenkins bought a $17 California spell; the seller confirmed completion before the forecast shifted to afternoon showers. Environment Canada forecasts showers late afternoon with a 30 percent chance of early-morning showers and a risk of thunderstorms.
