The TTC's Dundas Station is set to be renamed TMU Station following a proposal approved unanimously by the TTC board. This renaming aligns with the recent city council decision to rename Yonge-Dundas Square to Sankofa Square due to historical concerns related to Henry Dundas. The partnership between the TTC and TMU includes the creation of an innovation hub called the Transit Innovation Yard, aimed at advancing transit innovation in Canada. TMU will cover the renaming costs and contribute towards research efforts, reflecting both organizations' commitment to progress and community service.
Coun. Jamaal Myers, chair of the TTC board, emphasized, "To be clear, the TTC is not taking any position on Henry Dundas. We are solely responding to the request that was brought forward to us from council."
Mohamed Lachemi, president of TMU, stated, "This partnership gives the university an opportunity to serve the city. It's an honour to have the station named after us."
