Goaltender Artur Akhtyamov showed steady growth in second pro season
Akhtyamov split time with Dennis Hildeby at the start of the AHL season and took most starts while Hildeby was frequently called up to the Maple Leafs due to injuries in Toronto’s crease. He represented the Marlies at the AHL All-Star Classic in February and stopped all five shooters in the breakaway relay. Across 37 AHL games, he posted a 21-12-4 record with a .904 SV%, 2.88 GAA, and one shutout. He made his Maple Leafs debut on December 13 against Edmonton, stopping five shots over 10:32 in a 6-3 loss. He earned his first NHL start in April, allowing two goals on 24 shots in the first period and finishing with 39 saves on 44 shots in a 5-3 loss, then made a second start days later versus Dallas, facing 32 shots in a 6-5 defeat.
