Jay Woodcroft is not on the Toronto Maple Leafs’ current list of people to interview because Toronto has not asked permission to talk to him. Woodcroft previously coached the Edmonton Oilers to a 79-41-13 cumulative record before being dismissed midway through the 2023-24 campaign. He is viewed as a bright offensive mind and would represent a departure from Craig Berube’s coaching style. Toronto general manager John Chayka said the team will conduct an extensive search, including interviews with internal candidates Derek Lalonde and Mike van Ryn. David Carle of the University of Denver is a leading candidate but would need to be convinced to leave the NCAA after winning three championships in five years.
