Enfield Council is taking legal action against Toby Carvery after they illegally felled an ancient oak tree in Whitewebbs Park. Despite the company's claims that the tree was dying, council experts found it healthy with signs of life. Council leader Cllr Ergin Erbil criticized Toby Carvery for violating the lease conditions, stating the tree was vital for the local ecosystem and cultural heritage. The situation is being treated seriously, with the council committed to ensuring the protection of public land and its natural assets.
I am outraged that the leaseholder has cut down this beautiful ancient oak tree without seeking any permissions or advice from Enfield Council.
The tree was the oldest one on site and cutting it down seems to be a clear breach of this condition.
