Jerry Rice gives Bucs WR Mike Evans blessing to break 1,000-yard record
Briefly

Mike Evans, franchise leader for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, hopes to improve his performance in 2025 after accumulating 1,000 receiving yards for the 11th consecutive year, tying a record with Jerry Rice. He missed three games due to a hamstring injury, which he described as one of the most challenging of his career. With Rice's encouragement, Evans looks forward to achieving sole possession of the record, which has not been surpassed since Rice set it in 1996 during a 16-game season.
"Hopefully I can do it ... early," Evans said, flashing a smile and letting out a chuckle. The six-time Pro Bowler missed three games with a hamstring injury last season -- tied for his longest stretch of missed games as he heads into Year 12.
Rice told Evans in a feature by The Players' Tribune, "You know that I'm pulling for you right?" Evans responded to Rice, "That means more to me than you could ever know, so I appreciate that, O.G. You are the original. ... This is so surreal right now. This is surreal for me that you know who I am."
