"The best thing about Cooladdi is the people who visit the roadhouse. Even though it's hard work, it's a rewarding gig. I've always found the best thing is the local community the people within around 70km who come through the property."
"Running Cooladdi means serving as the postie, the publican, the cook and the shopkeeper. The food and the pub are probably one of the main jobs; we also do the mail runs as part of the post office."
Cooladdi, located in outback Queensland, is officially on the market for $400,000. The sale includes the Foxtrap Roadhouse and a four-bedroom home. The town has only two residents, Carol Yarrow and Jo Cornel, who took over the roadhouse in February 2023. They aimed to revitalize the town but are now ready to retire and move closer to family. Cooladdi was once a thriving railway hub with a peak population of 270, but has since dwindled due to the decline of the local sheep industry and the closure of the school in 1974.
