An airline had to cancel flights for thousands of passengers after it cleaned some planes' seat covers with water
"Safety is always our top priority, and we always follow the manufacturers' maintenance instructions as well as the guidelines and recommendations of the authorities,"
"properly verified"
"We are investigating options so that we can return the aircraft to service as soon as possible."
"To prevent the license from expiring during the flight, it was decided to return to perform the maintenance in the Netherlands,"
Finnair canceled around 40 flights over two days, disrupting roughly 5,000 passengers, after a manufacturer raised concerns that washing seat covers with water might affect fire protection. The airline temporarily suspended operations for eight of its 15 Airbus A321 jets and flew those aircraft empty to its Helsinki hub while investigating options to return them to service. The manufacturer indicated the effect of water cleaning on the seat covers had not been properly verified. The airline emphasized safety priority and adherence to manufacturers' maintenance instructions and regulatory guidelines, and similar disruptions occurred at other carriers earlier in the year.
