A visit to the Colosseum in Rome in October 2022 proved disappointing due to unexpected crowds and long lines, overshadowing the anticipation of a serene exploration. Despite its capacity of 3,000 visitors at a time, the reality of the iconic attraction was filled with stress and noise. The Colosseum, a 2,000-year-old structure and symbol of Rome, sees around 6 million tourists annually, making it difficult to find quiet moments. The overwhelming experience contrasted sharply with initial hopes for a tranquil visit.
Even with a skip-the-line service, I was disappointed that there was no escaping the crowds of tourists.
My excitement was soon replaced by confusion, frustration, and overall gloom.
