"The Pacific Northwest may not be the first destination that comes to mind for fall foliage, but Washington state has some of the country's most spectacular autumn road trips. The 400-mile Cascade Loop is one such example, leading travelers past golden larches, alpine lakes, glaciated mountain passes, verdant farmlands, storybook towns, and rugged coastline. I've done this road trip many times-in smaller sections and as a complete loop."
"The drive from Everett to the Bavarian-inspired village of Leavenworth is the perfect introduction to the Cascade Loop. As you make your way through the Stevens Pass Greenway, mountain vistas unfold in every direction, and the fall colors grow more vivid as you descend toward town. Notable stops on this stretch include the historic Mukilteo Lighthouse, scenic pullouts along Stevens Pass, and Wallace Falls State Park, with its cascading waterfalls framed by autumn foliage."
The 400-mile Cascade Loop in Washington traverses golden larches, alpine lakes, glaciated passes, farmlands, storybook towns, and rugged coastline. The route is highly customizable but five days are suggested to complete the loop, with extra days for lingering or hiking. Day 1 runs from Everett to Leavenworth via the Stevens Pass Greenway with scenic pullouts, Mukilteo Lighthouse, and Wallace Falls State Park. Leavenworth offers alpine-style streets, breweries, boutiques, and riverfront fall views. Day 2 crosses farmland and vineyards through Wenatchee Valley and Chelan into the Methow Valley, ending in Winthrop with wooden boardwalks and historic storefronts.
