Mardi Gras World in New Orleans is a working warehouse where Kern Studios builds massive floats for Mardi Gras and other major events; tours include king cake, giant sculptures, and detailed explanations of float-making techniques from foam and papier-mâché to painting and carving. Bodie State Historic Park in California preserves about 200 structures in arrested decay, allowing visitors to see windows, artifacts, and a town frozen as of 1962.
