Seven migrants from Sudan lost their lives after being stranded in the Libyan desert due to a vehicle breakdown while crossing from Chad. The group, consisting of 34 individuals, was trapped for 11 days without food or water. Officials reported that those rescued were severely dehydrated, facing trauma from witnessing fatalities among companions. Although 22 were saved, including five children, five remained missing with little hope of survival. Libya continues to be a significant transit route for migrants seeking better opportunities amid widespread conflict and despair in their home regions.

Belhassan said hopes were slim they would survive on foot in the vast desert, and encouraged awareness of migrant struggles.
