Max Purcell, a Grand Slam doubles champion, has accepted an 18-month ban from tennis after breaching anti-doping rules related to the use of IV infusions exceeding the allowed limit. The 27-year-old, after admitting to a breach in December, had cooperated with the investigation which led to a 25% reduction in his penalty. Purcell expressed feeling relieved yet acknowledges the emotional toll the case has taken on him, including anxiety and physical symptoms. His suspension will end on June 11, 2026, and he will be unable to participate in tennis events until then.
Purcell expressed relief in a statement on Instagram, stating that the case has significantly affected his quality of life, leading to nervous tics and anxiety.
Following his voluntary provisional suspension, Purcell will be unable to play or attend tennis events until the end of his 18-month ban on June 11, 2026.
