The Swedish Migration Agency has not approved any standard citizenship applications since April 1st because of new security checks mandated by the government. The agency requires more time to implement the necessary in-person identity verification processes for applicants. Most individuals seeking citizenship through naturalisation are affected, while applications through notification, easier for children and Nordic citizens, remain unaffected. The agency also continues to reject cases without needing in-person checks, but only six naturalisation cases were approved in April compared to over 3,200 in March.
