"London Liverpool Street has retained its title as Great Britain's busiest railway station for the third year running, with almost 100 million entries and exits, according to figures from the Office of Rail and Road. It's quite possible that the station could have broken the 100 million barrier if it hadn't been closed for 8 days last Christmas (and will be again this Christmas) for engineering works."
"At the other end of the spectrum, Elton and Orston in Nottinghamshire regained its title of the least used station with just over one passenger a week. Denton in Greater Manchester - last year's least used station - is now fourth, after the number of entries and exits nearly doubled compared with last year. The stations at the bottom of the ranks tend to bounce around a lot, because the minute a station is named as the quietest, it loses the title within weeks"
The Office of Rail and Road's annual estimates for April 2024–March 2025 show London Liverpool Street retained its status as Great Britain's busiest railway station with almost 100 million entries and exits. The station missed breaking 100 million due to eight days of engineering closures last Christmas and faces a similar closure this Christmas. The quietest station was Elton and Orston in Nottinghamshire with 68 entries. Five open stations recorded 150 or fewer entries, including Shippea Hill and Denton. The Elizabeth line is driving high usage at Liverpool Street, Paddington, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon and Stratford, generating six of the top ten flows.
