"Residents are warning that a burnt-out Grade II listed pub in south London could collapse this winter unless urgent action is taken to shore up the rapidly deteriorating building. The former Burn Bullock in Mitcham, which was severely damaged in a fire last April, has been surrounded by hoardings for more than a year, but locals and conservation groups say little has been done to ensure its survival."
"The building, with sections believed to date back to the 16th century, was recently added to the National Heritage at Risk Register. The register described its condition as very bad and gave it the highest priority for urgent works, warning of an immediate risk of further rapid deterioration or loss of fabric with no agreed solution in place. In May 2024, a representative for the building's owners, Phoenix Group Investments Limited, told the LDRS: 'We are currently working with Merton Council to secure the site.'"
The former Burn Bullock pub in Mitcham, a Grade II listed building with sections dating to the 16th century, remains severely damaged after an April fire and has been hoarded for over a year. Recent removal of scaffolding exposed parts of the structure and has raised fears that wet, windy weather will accelerate deterioration, particularly to the oldest sections next to Mitcham Cricket Pavilion. Mitcham Cricket Green Community and Heritage has demanded full scaffolding, structural support and weatherproof coverings for the winter while a long-term plan is developed. The building is on the National Heritage at Risk Register with condition rated very bad. The owners say they are working with Merton Council, but locals call for stronger enforcement and immediate stabilisation.
