First look: inside the very swish refurb of a major Northern line station in north London
"Colindale's old 1960s-built entrance has been replaced with a new concourse featuring a distinctive curved ceiling clad with laminated timber. It's quite the change, with the dreary, fluorescent-lit hall being replaced with an airy structure, with high ceilings and plenty of natural light. The station's original platform clock has also been restored and installed as a centrepiece of the new concourse, while the entrance has increased its capacity to accommodate for new homes in the area."
"The ticket hall's roof has had a sustainable blue-and-green roof drainage system installed, there is access to all platforms via a lift, and the pavements outside the front of the station have been widened. Work started on the glow-up back in January 2024. After a six-month closure in the second half of 2024 for major works, the station partially re-opened in December 2024."
Colindale station on the Northern line fully reopened to customers on Monday December 22 with fully step-free access for the first time. The 1960s entrance was replaced by a new concourse with a distinctive curved ceiling clad in laminated timber, higher ceilings and ample natural light. The station's original platform clock was restored and installed as a centrepiece. The ticket hall roof now includes a blue-and-green sustainable drainage system, lifts provide access to all platforms, and the pavements outside have been widened. Remaining works include an enhanced accessible toilet, permanent signage, cycle parking and retail fit-out.
