Ellen Cassidy, a 24-year-old UCC graduate and former swimming club captain, tragically collapsed just before finishing the Cork City Marathon half-marathon. Despite emergency efforts, she was later pronounced dead at Cork University Hospital. A talented swimmer, she represented Ireland in international competitions and was celebrated as a role model for younger athletes. Her family has requested colorful outfits for her funeral as a tribute to her vibrant spirit, and heartfelt condolences have been expressed by her swimming club, which honored her legacy with a touching statement.
