Gina Rinehart, Australia's richest person, has defended Ben Roberts-Smith amidst his recent defamation case loss, citing relentless attacks that undermine national integrity. After three justices ruled against Roberts-Smith's appeal regarding allegations of war crimes, Rinehart lamented the negative impact on the nation's defense forces, already challenged by manpower shortages. Although she has contributed to legal funds for ex-SAS soldiers, she refrained from confirming whether she directly funded Roberts-Smith's legal battles. In her response, she questioned the fairness of the media treatment towards a soldier who served under governmental orders.
Rinehart stated, 'The relentless attack on Ben Roberts-Smith hasn't made the country better... it's just weakened our Defence Force already struggling with inadequate numbers to defend us.'
In reference to the decision made by the federal court, Rinehart remarked, 'Many patriotic Australians query, is it fair that this brave and patriotic man who risked his life... is under such attack.'
