"Westminster Magistrates' Court was told the 57-year-old allegedly used social media to "relentlessly" publish offensive posts about an 18-year-old trans campaigner."
"This included calling Ms Brooks a "deeply disturbed sociopath" and a "domestic terrorist"."
"The posts were "not merely irritating or annoying, but rather oppressive and unacceptable, thereby crossing the threshold into harassment", and were "verbally abusive and vindictive", Ms Faure Walker said."
Graham Linehan, 57, has pleaded not guilty to charges of harassment and criminal damage relating to an 18-year-old transgender activist, Sophia Brooks. Prosecutors allege that Linehan used social media to publish a continuous string of offensive tweets targeting Sophia Brooks, calling her a "deeply disturbed sociopath" and a "domestic terrorist". They allege the posts were "not merely irritating or annoying, but rather oppressive and unacceptable, thereby crossing the threshold into harassment", and described them as "verbally abusive and vindictive". The prosecution says the pair met at the Battle of Ideas conference on 19 October 2024 and that Linehan "deliberately whacked" Brooks' phone out of her hand after she challenged him while filming. Linehan allegedly later tweeted he was "proud" of damaging the phone. He was separately arrested at Heathrow on suspicion of inciting violence over previous messages about trans people on X and was bailed pending further investigation, prompting debate about policing and free speech.
