Hoard of 600-year-old treasures uncovered in vulture nests
"Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"An extraordinary stash of 600-year-old treasures has been discovered inside several vulture nests in Spain. Archaeologists examining the nests of the bearded vultures in the southern Spanish mountains uncovered medieval artefacts, including a crossbow bolt, a slingshot, and a decorated piece of leather, some of which date back to around 1375. The items, which are believed to be from the Middle Ages, were used by the birds to build their homes, alongside more common nesting materials."
The Independent emphasizes on-the-ground reporting across issues such as reproductive rights, climate change, and Big Tech, producing documentaries and soliciting donations to fund journalism without paywalls. The outlet positions donations as necessary to send reporters to cover both sides of developing stories and to keep quality journalism freely available to all. In southern Spanish mountains, archaeologists found a hoard of roughly 600-year-old medieval artefacts inside bearded vulture nests, including a crossbow bolt, a slingshot, and decorated leather dated around 1375. Analysis of 12 nests recovered 2,483 remains dominated by bone, along with eggshells, esparto grass items, and hooves, preserved by cliff cave nesting sites.
