
Several prominent Scottish figures received New Year Honours for contributions to sport, charity, business and public service. Fergus McCann was made a CBE for services to the economy and charity after paying off Celtic’s debts, rebuilding Celtic Park and stabilising the club’s finances. Ann Budge became an OBE after investing £2.5m to rescue Hearts from administration, delivering a new main stand, introducing a living wage and helping make the club the largest fan-owned side in the UK. Jim Craig received an OBE for his role in Celtic’s 1967 European Cup-winning team. Other honourees include a singer, a leading forensic scientist, a former defence minister and senior public-sector figures.
