Hottest May day ever in the UK as temperatures top 33C - and could still go higher
Britain experienced its hottest May day on record, with temperatures reaching 33.5C on Monday. The spring bank holiday’s unseasonable heat surpassed the previous hottest May day record and also exceeded the hottest day of the year. Forecasts indicate temperatures could rise as high as 35C by afternoon. The highest temperatures are expected across Lincolnshire, the Midlands, western parts of East Anglia, and southwards into the London area. The Met Office said Monday would be the hottest day in May in UK temperature records, with highs around 35C. The heatwave broke the previous May record of 32.8C set in 1944 and also surpassed the hottest bank holiday record of 33.3C recorded in August 2019.
