"What we are about to display on the screens is truly shocking, prosecutor Paul Greaney KC warned. A momentary silence fell and all eyes turned to the flat-screen televisions displayed in the court room 4 at Liverpool Crown Court. For months, they'd relived the harrowing ordeal of the Liverpool parade tragedy through nightmares and flashbacks. Now the victims of Paul Doyle were about to witness the devastation all over again. 140 seconds was all that was shown - but it was enough."
"Paul Doyle appeared emotional in the dock during the sentencing hearing at Liverpool Crown Court (Elizabeth Cook/PA) (PA Wire) After Doyle decided to leave a queue of traffic and steer through a gap in traffic cones, the footage showed him accelerate into the heart of the crowd, hitting any person, young and old, who was unable to get out of his way. The screams of panic from supporters could be heard. Some bounced onto the bonnet, the horror in the faces clear from the footage."
Prosecutor warned the footage was shocking before 140 seconds of dashcam and CCTV were shown. The dashcam from Doyle's Ford Galaxy captured aggressive, dangerous driving toward supporters leaving a victory parade. A person dragged a child from the car's advance. Doyle left a traffic queue, steered through traffic cones and accelerated into the crowd, striking people unable to move. Screams of panic were audible while some people bounced onto the bonnet and others were thrown to the ground. A 10-year-old girl and a pram with a five-month-old baby were struck. In the courtroom many watched in horror, some turned away or wept, and Doyle appeared emotional and in tears.
