In a statement, the Labour Party said Lord Triesman died on Friday night "peacefully and at home". The prime minister said he was "saddened" to hear of the death. "David will be remembered for his brilliant contribution to our Party and country, including as Labour General Secretary and a government minister," Sir Keir wrote on X."
Lord David Triesman died peacefully at home aged 82. He served as a Foreign Office minister from 2004 and held active roles in the House of Lords, sitting on several prominent select committees. He was general secretary of the Association of University Teachers and later of the Labour Party. He served as Labour General Secretary and was a shadow minister for foreign affairs. He was FA chair from 2008 to 2010, campaigned against racism, supported women's football, and was the FA's first independent chair. He was a passionate Tottenham Hotspur fan. He leaves his wife, Lucy, and daughter, Ilona.
