"A major London airport has been given the greenlight to officially expand. Planning permission has been approved to allow Stansted Airport to increase its annual passenger cap from 30 million to 51 million people. The busy airport will be allowed to cater for more passengers without widening its current boundaries or adding a new runway. This means the number of flights Stansted is already allowed to run will stay the same."
"Stansted said today, December 17, that the approval will help support the creation of up to 4,500 new jobs as well as new educational and training opportunities. The changes will be rolled out over the next 20 years. Uttlesford District Council approved the planning permission, but full approval will happen once the airport's support for the community plans, known as a S106 agreement, have also been signed off."
"We are pleased Uttlesford District Council has approved our application, which lays the foundations for the long-term sustainable growth of London Stansted and means we can maximise the full potential of our existing runway. The opportunity is considerable as the full expansion of Stansted would deliver widespread social and economic benefits to the regions we serve, without any increase in the number of flights the airport is already permitted to operate and within the existing airport footprint."
Planning permission has been approved to raise Stansted Airport's annual passenger cap from 30 million to 51 million while keeping the airport footprint and existing runway unchanged. The expansion will not increase the number of flights the airport is permitted to operate. The approval is expected to support creation of up to 4,500 new jobs and new educational and training opportunities. The changes will be implemented over the next 20 years. Full consent depends on a signed S106 agreement that includes improvements to Junction 8 on the M11, funding for local bus services and roads. The airport has committed to 50% of journeys to and from the site being by public transport.
