Met Police officers forced to reveal links to secret society
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"Metropolitan Police officers are now required to disclose their membership of the Freemasons to their superiors. The UK's largest force has incorporated the organisation into its declarable associations policy, placing it alongside other "hierarchical organisations." Freemasons swear an oath of loyalty to the fraternity's principles and to supporting fellow members. Officers and staff are now required to declare membership past or present of any organisation that is hierarchical, has confidential membership and requires members to support and protect each other, the force said."
The Independent covers a wide range of issues including reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech while maintaining free access funded by donations from supporters. Donations enable journalists to report on emerging stories, investigate financial links such as Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC, and produce documentaries like 'The A Word' that spotlight American women fighting for reproductive rights. The Metropolitan Police now require officers and staff to declare past or present membership of the Freemasons and similar hierarchical organisations with confidential membership. The policy change followed recommendations from the Daniel Morgan Independent Panel probing the force's handling of the unsolved 1987 murder of private detective Daniel Morgan.
