Met Police shoot man in north London after he 'made threats to kill'
"A man is fighting for his life after being shot by Metropolitan Police officers who entered a London property by force. Scotland Yard were called to an address in Walthamstow at 10am on Friday to reports of a man with a gun. The suspected gunman allegedly made threats to kill at the property on Stow Crescent near Banbury Reservoir. Trained negotiators were dispatched and at 2pm officers entered the property and discharged their weapons."
"They found what they believed to be a firearm inside the property, a spokesman for the force said. The Met added that the incident was being referred to the Professional Standards Department. The man was initially treated at the scene by paramedics from the police and London Ambulance Service. He is currently in a life-threatening condition in hospital, the Met confirmed in a statement. Members of the public were told to stay away from the area, where a cordon remained in place."
"The Met added: The incident is contained and there is no wider threat to the public. A spokesman for the IOPC said: "We can confirm that we have started an independent investigation into the actions of the Met Police during an incident at an address in Walthamstow, east London where we understand a man was shot by police this afternoon and taken to hospital." The IOPC said they had begun the post-incident procedure to begin gathering evidence at the scene."
