Shaun Baker, a former drama teacher at Ravens Wood School in Bromley, has been jailed for 17 years after being found guilty of rape and sexual abuse against a 12-year-old pupil. The jury heard that Baker abused his position of trust, grooming the student before subjecting him to repeated sexual assaults from the late 2000s until his arrest in 2021. The victim recounted how the abuse disrupted his life and mental health, yet he remains determined to reclaim his future with dignity despite the harrowing experiences.
The jury found Baker guilty of 14 offences including three rapes following a two-week trial at Croydon Crown Court.
Prosecutor Tara McCarthy read a statement from the victim which described how Baker abused his position of trust as a teacher at the all boys school to systematically abuse him.
The victim stated, 'The abuse I suffered changed me. It took away my innocence, altered the course of my adolescence and impacted my adult life in many ways.'
The victim expressed determination to live his life on his own terms with courage and dignity despite the trauma.
