Joe Duffy is set to conclude his 27-year stint as the host of a daily radio show, marking his departure from RTÉ after 37 years. Meanwhile, Katie Hannon’s current affairs show, Upfront, has ended, despite its success in increasing audience reach. Hannon will continue to anchor the Behind the Story podcast and launch a TV series ahead of the presidential election. RTÉ's management cites financial restructuring and a focus on digital content as reasons for the show's cancellation.
Katie Hannon said: "I'm very proud of what we achieved on Upfront. We managed to buck the international trend and actually grew our audience on linear television and our digital footprint."
A spokeswoman for RTÉ said: "The decision to wrap production has been made due to the prioritising of people and financial resources, as the organisation incurs significant change and becomes smaller."
