Search operations are underway off Withernsea in the East Riding of Yorkshire for two people believed missing after emergency services were called just after 3pm. Ambulances, helicopters and aircraft took part in searches during severe conditions with waves reportedly reaching almost 10ft. Humberside Police recovered an unconscious 67-year-old man from the water who died at the scene; his death is not thought to be suspicious. Searches remain ongoing and residents will see increased police presence. The RNLI warned that cold-water shock combined with harsh weather poses serious risks in sea temperatures typically between 6C and 10C, urging extreme caution for winter dips.
