Specialist London surgeons save sight of Bangladeshi students injured in protests
Briefly

Surgeons Mahi Muqit and Niaz Islam from Moorfields Eye Hospital traveled to Dhaka, Bangladesh, where they operated on over 20 students injured during last summer's protests. The students, aged 14 to 30, suffered bullet injuries to their eyes, and the surgeons performed surgeries on 24 of them, while others received rehabilitation plans. This initiative, endorsed by Bangladesh's interim government, aimed to address the severe toll on vision these injuries caused. The emotional testimonials from the surgeons highlight the privilege of restoring sight to patients like Rohan and Romel, whose futures were positively impacted through the surgical interventions.
Mr Muqit remarked, 'It's such a privilege to be able to restore sight to people who have lived with sight loss for months.'
On Rohan's tragic case, Mr Muqit said, 'He was blinded in both eyes, with one being beyond hope... His vision will continue to improve as he recovers from the surgery.'
