Stephen Lawrence murderer David Norris denied parole
"Forensic evidence tied Norris and Dobson to the scene of the attack, with the jury accepting the prosecution view that being present when Lawrence was set upon meant all those there were guilty of murder by joint enterprise. Covert video recorded in 1994 and shown at the murder trial showed Norris talking about skinning black people and setting them alight, using racist terms and fantasising about violent acts against Asian and black people."
"Parole Board documents say Norris had recently admitted punching Lawrence, and therefore being present at the scene of the attack. Lawrence's parents, Doreen and Neville, demanded that Norris name the others present, as a sign that his remorse might be genuine. At his Parole Board hearing in October, Norris said: I will go to my grave with that guilt in my heart, adding that the events of that night 32 years ago should never have happened."
Stephen Lawrence, aged 18, was fatally stabbed near a south-east London bus stop on 22 April 1993 after a gang shouted racist abuse. David Norris was convicted in 2012 alongside Gary Dobson for the murder, with forensic evidence tying both to the scene and the jury applying joint enterprise. Norris denied involvement at trial and received a life sentence with a minimum of 14 years and three months. Parole Board documents record Norris admitting he punched Lawrence and being present. Covert 1994 footage captured racist fantasising by Norris. Norris expressed guilt but refused to name others present and will remain in prison.
