Sycamore Gap accused says he was asked to take blame for felling of tree

Daniel Graham has denied his involvement in the felling of the iconic Sycamore Gap tree, blaming his co-defendant Adam Carruthers for the act. Graham claims Carruthers had a special connection to the tree, even stating it was 'the most famous tree in the world.' In court, Graham recounted that Carruthers asked him to take the blame for the deed, suggesting leniency due to Graham’s mental health issues. He firmly rejected this, asserting he was not involved and was asleep during the incident caused by Storm Agnes.

Graham claimed Carruthers, who he stated had a sentimental attachment to the Sycamore Gap tree, was the one responsible for its felling.

Despite being implicated, Graham insisted he was asked to take responsibility due to his mental health issues, asserting, 'I told him that he was talking shite'.
