A recent poll of 2,000 Britons has identified the happiest and most miserable names in the UK. Dave emerged as the name associated with happiness, with 23% of respondents identifying those named Dave as the most cheerful. Katie was noted as the happiest female name. Conversely, Victor was viewed as the most miserable name, influenced by the character Victor Meldrew from a popular sitcom. Geographically, Northerners were found to be the happiest in the UK, contrasting with stereotypes of their demeanor.
The survey found that 23 percent of participants believe the happiest people they've ever met are named Dave, with Katie following closely behind as a female name.
Victor was ranked as the most miserable name, a view potentially influenced by the character Victor Meldrew, known for his grumpy persona in the sitcom One Foot in the Grave.
Despite their grumpy stereotypes, people from the North of England were found to be the happiest, with 44 percent of respondents insisting they’re a cheerful bunch.
The research highlights that not only does a name influence perceived happiness, but broader geographic stereotypes also play a role in how joy is viewed in individuals.
