A total of 735 officers were dismissed from forces in England and Wales in the year to March 2025, averaging two sacked officers per day and representing a record increase on the College of Policing's barred list since 2017. The Metropolitan Police had the highest number of dismissals, with 183 officers removed from a workforce of 33,293, followed by Greater Manchester Police with 43 dismissals from 8,112 staff. Dishonesty featured in 126 cases, discrimination in 95, and unlawful access or sharing of information in 82. Seventy-two officers faced sexual offences or misconduct allegations, 31 abused their position for sexual purposes, and 21 were linked to child sexual offences. Ten Metropolitan officers are being fast-tracked for misconduct hearings after undercover footage raised concerns about force culture and standards.
