Home Office sued over migrant sites' contract bid
"Mitie Care and Custody is suing the Home Office after the contract for two Kent sites went to MTC Definitive, claiming the Home Office failed to prevent conflicts of interest."
"Azeem Suterwalla KC, representing the Home Office, stated that Butler had access to sensitive information but was not involved in procurement decisions, and there was no serious risk of conflict."
The Home Office awarded a £462.6m contract for migrant processing to MTC Definitive, which Mitie Care and Custody is contesting. Mitie claims a conflict of interest exists due to MTC's head of development, Dave Butler, previously working at Manston. The Home Office refutes this, stating Butler was not involved in procurement decisions and had a 12-month restriction post-employment to prevent conflicts. Mitie seeks to have the contract awarded to them or the tendering process rerun, or to receive damages.
