Keir Starmer to remove Labour whip from at least three persistent rebel' MPs
Briefly

Keir Starmer is removing the whip from at least three MPs for their persistent rebellions against party policy. Among those affected is Neil Duncan-Jordan, an MP critical of the welfare bill and cuts to winter fuel allowance. Other MPs losing the whip are Brian Leishman and Chris Hinchliff. Losing the whip signifies that an MP is no longer considered part of the parliamentary party, although they still retain party membership. This disciplinary action marks another instance of Starmer enforcing strict party discipline, following prior removals of the whip for dissenting votes against the government.
Keir Starmer is to remove the whip from MPs for persistent rebellions, starting with at least three of them on Wednesday afternoon.
One of the MPs who has had the whip removed is Neil Duncan-Jordan, the MP for Poole, who was a critic of both the welfare bill and cuts to the winter fuel allowance.
The suspension is usually for a set period, and then reviewed.
It will be the second time Starmer has enforced severe discipline on MPs who vote against the government, after removing the whip from several MPs who voted with the SNP.
