To commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, King Charles and Queen Camilla will host a tea party for war veterans at Buckingham Palace. Events start on May 5 with a military procession of 1,300 armed forces members and a recitation of Winston Churchill's VE Day speech. A flypast and celebratory concert featuring various performers will follow. This occasion is poignant as it may be the last major anniversary with a significant number of World War Two veterans, highlighting their dwindling presence in memory of the war's end in Europe.
"I remember Battle of Britain in 1940 when we were fighting for our lives. We'd had a great deal of bombing - it was a very scary time."
"With this 80th anniversary being marked, it’s significant that we honor those who served, especially as they form a diminishing community today."
