Lammy accused of doing 'a runner' as more prisoners wrongfully released - London Business News | Londonlovesbusiness.com
"I asked the Justice Secretary, you think it's a reasonable thing to ask him. They do run the justice system and he didn't make any attempt to answer whatsoever. And so I was very frustrated by that."
"What worries me above all, there were 90 that were violent or sexual offenders. Now that is incredibly worrying for the public. So, to quote David Lammy to me, he needs to get a grip. Get a grip indeed. Or consider his position."
"Look, there's a big question about the ministerial code. As a minister, David Lammy is duty-bound to be transparent with Parliament. He needed to come back and clarify and he refused to do so. He did a runner and that's not acceptable."
James Cartlidge accused Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy of 'going a runner' after three recent manhunts following wrongful prisoner releases. The first wrongfully released individual, Hadush Kebatu, an Ethiopian illegal migrant convicted of sex offences, was later recaptured by the Met Police in North London and deported. Cartlidge pressed Lammy repeatedly during Prime Minister's Questions about another prisoner released in error, but Lammy declined to answer. Cartlidge warned that about 90 of the wrongfully released inmates were violent or sexual offenders and urged transparency and consideration of Lammy's position under the ministerial code.
