"The UKIP protest, originally planned for Whitehall under slogans such as take our country back and reclaim Whitechapel from the Islamists, was restricted by the Metropolitan Police amid fears of disorder in Tower Hamlets, one of the UK's largest Muslim communities. Instead, UKIP supporters gathered in central London on Saturday afternoon, assembling outside the London Oratory before marching toward Marble Arch."
Masked Muslim protesters marched in east London, vowing to stand firm and defend their community in response to a planned UKIP protest. A man speaking through a megaphone urged the crowd to prepare to defend elders, women and the wider community and said opponents had targeted Islam and spoken of a crusade and taking back streets. The Metropolitan Police restricted the planned UKIP demonstration in Tower Hamlets amid fears of disorder. UKIP supporters instead gathered in central London, assembled outside the London Oratory and marched toward Marble Arch while chanting anti-immigration slogans. Four counter-protesters were arrested for breaching march conditions.
