A former head of the UK National Cyber Security Centre said a claim that a Russian hack-and-leak operation caused a report about a political gift has no supporting evidence. The claim, if true, would have major implications for UK policy toward Russia and would represent an unprecedentedly aggressive intervention into British democracy. The former NCSC chief said the allegation is very serious and should be treated as a national security issue. He urged the claimant to contact the NCSC for investigation and to publish the technical evidence supporting the claim. The allegation arose after a parliamentary standards inquiry into failure to declare a multimillion-pound gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne in 2024.
"Martin said such an operation by the Kremlin would amount to an unprecedentedly aggressive intervention into Britain's democracy and that Farage should both contact the NCSC to investigate and make public the technical evidence he has for his claim. Martin said: An aspiring prime minister has essentially claimed that Russia has launched an unprecedentedly aggressive intervention a malicious intervention in British politics, and he's not produced a shred of evidence to support that claim."
