Danny Kruger defected from the Conservative Party to Reform UK and sent a letter to every household in his East Wiltshire constituency explaining his reasons. He said he had 'jumped ship' because of perceived Conservative failures on mass migration, border control, and unmet tax promises after Brexit, which eroded confidence in the party. He described the armed forces as 'hollowed out', the economy as 'highly precarious', and public services as 'at the brink of collapse' despite increased spending. Local Conservatives criticised his refusal to call a by-election and called for constituents to have the chance to choose their MP.
