Ofcom U-turns on TalkTV transphobia dismissal
"Ofcom has decided, exceptionally, to withdraw the 11 decisions and to consider afresh whether your complaints raise potentially substantive issues under the Broadcasting Code which warrant investigation by Ofcom,"
""active conversations with our lawyers about litigating Ofcom's failure to take action.""
""publish our new decisions, with reasons, in the Bulletin in due course in order to provide guidance to broadcasters and further clarity to the public.""
Ofcom initially dismissed over 22,000 complaints about 11 transphobic segments aired on TalkTV between June and July, then reversed that decision and reopened the cases for investigation. Good Law Project threatened legal action after the regulator's earlier dismissal and said it remains prepared to litigate. Ofcom formally withdrew the 11 decisions and will reconsider whether the complaints raise substantive issues under the Broadcasting Code. Ofcom pledged to publish new decisions with reasons in the Bulletin to guide broadcasters and clarify outcomes for the public. The challenged segments included hosts and guests making anti-trans statements.
