Palestinian family ask UK court to force officials to help them leave Gaza
Briefly

A Palestinian family of six trapped in Gaza is seeking UK consular support to leave, despite having permission to join a British relative. Their case, initially controversial, was given the green light by an immigration tribunal. The UK Home Office would allow their entry if biometric data is submitted at a visa application centre, but FCDO has denied the required consular support. Legal representatives argue that the family's request is reasonable and manageable, while FCDO cites the complexities of facilitating departures from Gaza and potential diplomatic repercussions.
The family, who have been granted anonymity, are a father, mother and four children. A brother of one parent is a British citizen in the UK.
The FCDO's legal team said that facilitating departures from Gaza was a highly complex exercise that expends political capital.
Tim Owen KC, representing the family, stated their request for consular assistance was a modest one that would be perfectly acceptable to Israel.
Mr Justice Chamberlain noted that the background of the case involved the generation of a certain amount of political controversy.
