
Peter Murrell visited Shetland Jewellery in July 2019 and purchased a 425 gold pendant inspired by the Northern Lights for his then-wife Nicola Sturgeon. The jeweller said Murrell told him, while Sturgeon was in the workshop area, that he was the man with the money and needed to buy something. The jeweller said Sturgeon wore the pendant frequently in public appearances. Murrell later pleaded guilty to embezzling 400,310.65 from the Scottish National Party between August 2010 and October 2022, and the pendant is among the admitted purchases. Sturgeon said she had no knowledge or suspicion that personal items were bought using SNP funds and that she and Murrell had separate bank accounts.
