Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner is accused of using £160,000 from a trust established to care for her disabled son to buy an £800,000 seafront flat. She allegedly sold a 25% share of her Ashton-under-Lyne home to her son's trust for £162,500. Her son, born prematurely, received compensation five years ago after an 11-year legal fight over birth-related difficulties; that payout was paid into a trust to protect his interests. Rayner paid £30,000 in stamp duty rather than £70,000, said an error was made, and insists she has done nothing wrong. She was released from a court undertaking and received public defence from Sir Keir Starmer.
