"Following an investigation into the failure to declare social media accounts during the candidate vetting process, councillor Ian Cooper has had his membership of Reform UK revoked"
"no foreign national or first generation migrant should be allowed to sit in Parliament"
"Ian Cooper has, by sharing this kind of material, exposed his far-right and racist opinions."
"Staffordshire deserves better than this outright bigotry."
Ian Cooper, leader of Staffordshire County Council, had his Reform UK membership revoked after an investigation found he failed to declare social media accounts during candidate vetting and was linked to racist posts. The contested activity included a post saying no foreign national or first generation migrant should be allowed to sit in Parliament and alleged engagement with a white supremacist Facebook page. Cooper remains council leader but no longer leads the local Reform group; Martin Murray is interim group leader. Nine Labour MPs called for his resignation and Nigel Farage said the investigation did "not look good." The next full council meeting is on 11 December.
