"I'm 78 and all this bullshit for one last trip home is ridiculous. I am disgusted, she said. She said an official at the passports office told her they had been inundated with passport applications. New UK border rules coming into force on 25 February require British dual nationals to present a British passport or a certificate of entitlement, which costs 589, to visit the UK when using a non-British passport. The change affects up to 1.2 million people who have moved abroad and has caught many by surprise. Many long-term expatriates routinely travel on their other nationality and now face extensive paperwork to prove British citizenship. Examples include elderly people unable to locate long-form birth or marriage certificates and parents who have not held a UK passport for years. Some say their only option is to renounce British citizenship.
