The Scottish Parliament's new policy on toilet use designates facilities based on biological sex, following a Supreme Court ruling. Christine Grahame clarified that no ID would be required for entry, but Scottish Trans criticized the decision as rushed and detrimental to trans participation in democracy. The Scottish Greens expressed concern over the negative impact on trans individuals in the workplace. The SPCB asserts that several gender-neutral options exist, and the policy aims to balance rights while awaiting a consultation process regarding permanent changes.
Following the change in policy, no one will be expected to show ID or birth certificates to use the toilet, Christine Grahame said on behalf of the cross-party Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body.
Scottish Trans branded the move 'rushed' and 'unworkable,' claiming it would exclude trans people from participating in Scottish democracy.
Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie criticized the decision, stating it made trans people feel unwelcome and demeaned in their workplace.
Grahame emphasized both single-sex and gender-neutral facilities are available so individuals could choose according to their rights and legal responsibilities.
